Roots in Mexican football
Born on October 14, 2008, in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Gilberto Mora is an attacking midfielder whose early career has been built at Club Tijuana. His father, Gilberto Mora Olayo, also played professionally. Football was part of the family setting before it became the teenager’s profession.
Tijuana opens the door
His Liga MX debut came on August 18, 2024, against Santos Laguna. Juan Carlos Osorio brought him into Tijuana’s first team at 15. That debut matters for more than a record: it marked the point at which academy promise became a weekly challenge against senior professionals.
A national team breakthrough
The 2025 Gold Cup brought a larger audience. Mora appeared in the knockout stages, supplied an assist in the semifinal and started the final against the United States. Mexico’s title made his rise a regional story, rather than only a club story.
A World Cup stage
FIFA identifies Mora as the sixth-youngest player to debut at a men’s World Cup, at 17 years and 240 days in 2026. A World Cup appearance is a career milestone, but it is also a new starting point: the next task is to keep developing through regular club football.
A story still being written
The delight of following Mora is that so much remains open. The next match may add a new finish, a clever pass or a difficult lesson. Start with the moments already earned, then follow the next chapter with the same curiosity that made supporters notice him in the first place.
